Laser skin rejuvenation, also called “laser skin resurfacing,” is an ablative procedure used to create a youthful, clear complexion. The treatment is safe and effective for a variety of skin conditions, including:
Resplendence MedSpa uses the Erbium YAG laser for this procedure, which is considered less invasive than other types of lasers and offers a shorter recovery time with fewer side effects.
How Does Laser Skin Rejuvenation Work?
Laser skin resurfacing is considered an ablative procedure, meaning that it removes unnecessary tissue. The energy produced by the YAG laser vaporizes the water within skin cells, causing damaged cells to be removed. This allows for a new epidermal layer to be revealed, creating a more youthful appearance, and triggers the growth of new collagen.
The Laser Skin Rejuvenation Procedure
Before the laser skin rejuvenation begins, either topical or local anesthesia will be used to avoid discomfort through the procedure. Then, the YAG laser handpiece is passed along the treatment area, removing the dead and damaged skin cells. Treatment is usually completed in a series of two to four treatment sessions over a period of about four to six weeks.
Recovering from Laser Skin Rejuvenation
After laser skin rejuvenation treatment, redness in the treatment area is normal and can be covered with makeup. Most patients require about seven to ten days after the procedure to rest and recover before they return to work or other normal activities. This depends on the exact treatment chosen, as lighter resurfacing requires a shorter recovery period.
Some patients are required to wear bandages over the treated area after their procedure, which can be replaced during follow-up visits. Dr. Sabour will also prescribe ointments to avoid scarring as you recover. Be sure to follow all recovery and skin care instructions following your procedure to maintain the results.
